Thousands of mortgage holders suffering from pre-existing medical conditions are trapped in unsuitable and often expensive payment protection policies because the plans cannot be transferred to another lender. Simon Burgess of the insurance brokers Burgesses said “Its outrageous. I believe the only reason is to tie the most vulnerable borrowers into financial arrangements that often offer poor value for money,” he says. “The key is to buy a portable policy.”
