Launch of Equality

The city underwriting agency, Burgesses, has launched Equality, a mortgage payment protection insurance that provides individual or joint cover against the risks of disability and unemployment, irrespective of age, gender, sexuality or occupation. Cover also includes, sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and the physical complications that arise from pregnancy – said to be a UK first.
Equality is available to all UK residents aged between 18 and 65 and will pay the full costs of owning a home or £2,500 per month, whichever is the lesser after a waiting period of only 30 days. Premia are said to be highly competitive – to protect a typical mortgage in joint names or £500 per month would cost £13.75 per month, irrespective of the occupations or lifestyles of the individual concerned.
