WHAT HOUSE? - 1ST OCTOBER 2003

Burgesses is claiming that mortgage payment protection insurance is being mis-sold to the self-employed by the big mortgage lenders. The insurance, which is essential for the self-employed as it covers mortgage payments if you lose your job, fall ill or have an accident that prevents you from working, is believed to be over-inflated. According to Burgesses, the average cost of mortgage payment protection insurance from the major lenders is £5.78 per £100, where as Burgesses charges £3.95.
