Insurer targets homosexual males

INTERNATIONAL HERALD - 4TH JUNE 2002

A London-based insurer is targeting homosexual men as a niche market with what is says is a first – an income payment protection insurance policy that includes coverage for HIV and Aids.

The policy, underwritten at Lloyd’s of London, offers coverage for gay men contracting HIV, Aids or sexually transmitted diseases, according to Burgesses, the underwriting agency that is marketing policy.

“I’m aiming for the male population with a high disposable income, who also have great concerns, because of fears over Aids, for their own mortality,” Simon Burgess, Burgesses’ managing partner, said Wednesday.
