Burgesses offers extra Aids protection

POST MAGAZINE - 4TH JUNE 2002

Controversial underwriting agency Burgesses has produced what it claimed to be the world’s first income payment protection insurance policy to cover gay men and women against the risk of HIV and Aids.

Managing partner Simon Burgess said the move had been taken after the company was shocked to find no such cover available for the gay and lesbian community.

He said: “This is a world first and we are determined to ensure that all minorities are offered the chance to protect their income.

“There are some who say that offering HIV cover to gays is financial suicide! Far from it; carve away the prejudice and assess the risk. This is minimal and therefore it can be absorbed within our standard rates.”

The move has been backed by members of the gay community.
