Burgesses offers Pride Without Prejudice
INSURANCE TIMES - 11TH JUNE 2002
Controversial underwriting agency Burgesses is building on its range of non-discriminatory covers with a mortgage payment protection insurance policy for gay men and women.
Burgesses’ Pride Without Prejudice includes cover against the risk of Aids and HIV or other sexually transmitted illnesses.
The policy protects against disability and unemployment is available to all UK residents aged between 18 and 65 provided they are in full-time work.
It will pay the full costs of owning a home or £2,500 per month – whichever is the lesser – after a waiting period of only 30 days.
Premiums start at £2.75 per £100 of monthly benefit – which Burgesses maintains is less than half that charged by banks and building societies.
Protecting a typical mortgage in joint names of £500 per month costs £13.75 – irrespective of the occupations or lifestyles of the individuals concerned.
Burgesses managing partner Simon Burgess believes that price and flexibility are the major features of the scheme and will help the firms “enhance market share.”
Pride Without Prejudice is underwritten at Lloyd’s and is fully compliant with ABI guidelines.
It can be purchased by completing a simple proposal form without any need for medical evidence.
