Burgesses: disability protection
PROFESSIONAL BROKING - 1ST JUNE 2003
Protection broker Burgesses has launched a disability protection product called incomesafety.net
The income replacement cover provides tax-free monthly benefits of up to 75% of normal gross earnings, after a waiting period of 30 days. The policy, underwritten at Lloyds does not load premiums on the basis of gender, sexuality or occupation.
Burgesses claims its premiums are also extremely competitive. A builder worker, for example, would pay £25 a month to receive a benefit of £1000 a month for up to 12 months. A premium of £30 a month would extend this period to 24 months.
Simon Burgess, managing director of Burgesses, invited interest brokers to get in touch. He said “Ideally the provider would be a member of the General Insurance Standards Council, but we will consider any professional intermediary.”
Mr Burgess continued: “Discrimination on the basis of age, gender or sexuality is not acceptable practice in the second millennium. It has quite sinister implications because it puts forward a template for insurers to cherry pick on the grounds of genetic information.”
